God’s Embrace

A parent’s anticipation of their child coming home is one of the most gripping moments they can experience apart from their child being born.  I remember the mix of emotions when my James got to come home from his training in the army.  The whole way to Georgia to get James, I was on pins and needles.  Thousands of questions ran through my head about what I would do or say when I finally saw him.   It is the same type of emotions I got when my boys ran into my arms after their first day of kindergarten, or their first long week away from home at church camp.  On the last day of their camp, I would wait at the church with butterflies eager to see their little smiles, and hear their many stories.  There isn’t much I wouldn’t do to see my boys.  I didn’t quite understand this when I was a child myself.  I was always ready for the next adventure.  However, I remember coming home, and seeing my parents standing there with the same excitement on their faces as I exited the bus and ran into their arms.  The amazing thing we need to remember is that God feels the same way when His children come back to Him.  I like to imagine His smile and His arms open wide as we run to embrace Him.  God asks us to come to Him if we have drifted away from Him, if we are weary and worn, and if we need assurance and love.  He is our heavenly Father and He is standing there waiting for us to come to Him.  A quote that I love by Greg Laurie states, “God is watching us, but He loves us so much that He can’t take His eyes off us. We may lose sight of God, but He never loses sight of us.”

Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dear Lord, Thank you for always being there for us and loving us.  We praise You, for You are worthy to be praised!  Amen.
