Hide and Seek

Do you ever think about how God is omniscient?  He sees and knows all things.  We cannot hide from Him.  I used to love playing hide and seek with my kids.  It was pretty easy when they were smaller.   I could skip count to 100 and peek through my hands without them noticing.  Yes, I know that’s cheating, but part of me did it so that they couldn’t wander off too far from me.  I still remember the giggles when I found them.   One time though my Samuel found a pretty good hiding spot, and it took me a little while to find him.  As I finally approached him, he jumped out and hugged me.  Sometimes as children of God we think that we can wander off and hide away, but no matter how far we wander, God still sees us, and He never leaves us.  He is waiting for us to jump out and seek Him.  To quit living apart from Him.  Jeremiah 29 was written for God’s people who once again rebelled and became captive to Babylon.  Jeremiah writes to them trying to explain to them to go ahead and dwell in Babylon and make peace there because God has let them be carried there due to their sins.  God promises that after 70 years in Babylon He would return and perform His good words to them.  And finally one of my favorite verses.  God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, then I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart.”  I love the fact that God wants us to seek Him with all our hearts.  If they had remained in God and obeyed they would have not been held captive.  This has been God’s desire for His children since creation.  It is His desire for us today.  God wants us to seek Him with all of our hearts.  To draw close to Him.  He doesn’t promise that every day will be  prosperous and without trials.  However, He promises to be with us through whatever comes our way.  Apart from God is total darkness and despair.  Just like a child waiting in darkness for someone to finally find them.   Why wait…jump out and seek Him!

Dear Lord,  Thank you for Your word and promises.  Thank you for reminding us that we need You.  Help us to seek You and to remain in You.  Amen!
