It has been six weeks since Waylon’s stroke and just like any trauma you suffer, it takes time and patience to recover. Waylon made it through his rehab like a champion in a hurry to get home and here we are, resting at home. He still suffers with left neglect which complicates his ability to balance and remember from time to time. The feeling in his left hand is still not there, but as everyone of his doctors confirm, “He should be a lot worse.” Waylon is truly a walking miracle again. I know for a fact that God is not done with him, and sometimes I think it is to teach me some nuggets of wisdom. Being a care taker is not always the easiest job. Especially for a loved one. It is hard seeing the frustration and anger when they can’t accomplish the task they once were able to do. It is difficult to always remember the right things to say to encourage them and motivate them. A caretaker can become tired themselves and want to run and hide, but God always reminds me that it is His strength I need, and not my own. It is God’s love and grace that has to be in me. I mean isn’t that what He does for all of us? His unconditional love, strength and grace that He gives His children every moment of every day is hard to fathom. Our minds cannot grasp this kind of love. So, I praise God for my Waylon, for my walking miracle, for the lessons He is teaching me, and most of all His love. We are all caretakers of someone, so when you are feeling run down or ready to quit, remember all of God’s ways. He is our strength and comfort. An ever present God if we remain in Him. 1 John 3:24, “The one who keeps His commands remains in Him, and He is in him. And the way we know that He remains in us is from the Spirit He has given us.” Amen.
Dear God, Thank you so much for always being there with us and for giving us the opportunity to be used by you through taking care of others. Thank you for my walking miracle, Waylon. You have shown out so many times in our lives and I praise You for that. Help us to be a light in the darkness. To show others Your love. Love, Me.
