The American family spends on average 9,000 dollars a year on landscaping, and at least 70 hours of their time a year. I did the math and if a person attends every Sunday morning church service, they spend maybe 52 hours with God. Let’s be honest, most Christians do not make it to every Sunday morning service. Honestly, I admit Sunday morning services are not the problem I face, but any night service I find difficult during the school year. It is a hit and miss on Wednesday nights. God didn’t say we had to make those extra services, right? What devastated me even more was that most Christians feel that the only time we need to give to God is the hour set aside on the Sabbath. If this is true, then a person spends more time, energy, and money on their yards than with God. We mow, weed, plant, water, and build it to meet our expectations and the expectations of those around us. If only we did this to our relationship with God. Maybe this is why we aren’t experiencing freedom or breaking curses. God reminds us over and over that His love for us knows no bounds. Our relationship with God has no limits, only the ones we put up. He wants us to grow and develop deep roots in His word. Just like any relationship, it needs time and selfless energy. I am not saying that we need to spend less time landscaping. No, that was just one example of many things we put before God. What I am saying to you and myself is that our relationship with God needs to take priority over all else. 52 hours a year isn’t a strong relationship, but maybe an acquaintance. I do not want God to be an acquaintance of mine. God is so much more to me than that. HE is my Abba Father, my King, my Savior, my healer, my best friend, and my rock! If He means this much to us, He deserves our daily and continuous time. Time for us to delight in Him and in His presence.
Psalm 1:1-2: “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.”
1 Chronicles 16:11: “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.”
Dear God, Forgive me for not putting our relationship first above all others. Help me to seek you daily and to delight in Your word and presence continuously. For You alone are worthy. Amen.
