God’s Comfort

One Friday out of the month I am  privileged to moderate the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Garrison ISD Middle School, and this Friday one of my students led the devotional for her first time.  It was a great study from Psalm 34 about God’s comfort.  She was nervous and doubted herself, but with courage from God and encouragement from her friends, she did an amazing job.  I remember that feeling of excitement you get as a young believer finally gathering up the courage to lead others in a devotional about God.  It is one of the most incredible experiences you can have as a child of God.  The calm nudge of God that you are doing what is right and admirable in His eyes.  When you finally realize that nothing else matters but being obedient to God.  Despite what others might think of you, or what Satan tries to tell you.  She didn’t just make God proud, but so many others that she isn’t even aware of yet.  She got to tell fifty students the word of God and explained the promise that He will comfort them when they are broken.   “God stays close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18.  Through her devotion God gave me comfort as well.  He continues to remind me that I am here at Garrison ISD for a purpose.  Not just to teach reading and writing to a bunch of 6th graders, but to cover these kids with God’s love.  To lift up the broken hearted and to shine a light in a darkened world.  God gives all of us the same purpose wherever we are placed.  I know it isn’t always easy and we sometimes don’t feel like shining bright, but with that same nudge of encouragement and comfort God gave my student, He does the same for all of His children.  So, keep on looking up and reaching out!

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.” Psalm 46:1-2

Dear God,

Thank you for always being a constant source of comfort and refuge in our lives.  Help us to remember our purpose in this life and to strive to reach others for You.  Amen.
